Flat-Flex® belts are manufactured from 1.4310 (302) stainless steel and are USDA/FDA approved for direct food contact. In addition, the USDA has published guidelines for the proper cleaning and disinfecting of wire conveyor belts to eliminate the dangers of contamination from bacterial or other potentially harmful substances.
Various types of cleaners/disinfectants have been approved by the USDA/FDA for use on food processing equipment. These types include: caustic chlorine-based acid products, alkaline foam cleaners, as well as many other cleaners.
The following table describes some of these products:

Various methods can be used to apply the above cleaning and disinfecting agents. You can use brushes, spatulas and/or high-pressure cleaners here. But no matter which method is used to use the cleaning agent, care must be taken to thoroughly rinse off the cleaned surfaces.
Please note: chlorinated cleaning agents can damage stainless steel.
Handle your belt carefully when cleaning it and avoid bending or pulling on the individual links. Avoid grooming aids with handles or handles below the surface of the belt. However, should one or more links become bent, please straighten them immediately with needle-nosed pliers.

Make sure that no matter which cleaning product is used in your system, you always read the operating instructions for the cleaning product and act according to its specifications. When using corrosive liquids, please wear appropriate protective equipment as recommended by the manufacturer.
